TIPS FOR YOUR LEARNING STYLE

VISUAL LEARNERS

1.

RE-WRITE the information in your own words

2.

Draw out/organize the information you want to remember with charts, diagrams, etc.

3.

Color Code your notes, but make sure you have a system

4.

Use online videos from Youtube and Kahn Academy and try to summarize the topics in your own way

5.

Think about visual cue flash cards and or concept maps 

LOGICAL LEARNERS

1.

Break up large amounts of information into smaller pieces and find common links

2.

Think about the real world applications/examples that apply to what you are learning as you are learning it

3.

Color Code your notes and/or make a pattern to your notes so they make sense to you

4.

Create bulleted lists, charts, and/or tables to organize information 

VERBAL & AUDITORY LEARNERS

1.

Talk aloud as you write your notes.

2.

Listen to podcasts or watch videos that explain concepts you want extra help with

3.

Explain concepts to your friends/family and see if they are able to follow 

4.

Use a voice recorder to record the professor (if allowed) and/or yourself reading the notes you want to learn and then listen to them later

5.

Be an active participant during in-class discussions 

6.

Read books and any other required reading out loud 

INTERPERSONAL LEARNERS

1.

Create study groups and/or always try to study with a buddy

2.

Be an active participant in group work/ group projects

3.

Explain concepts to your friends/family and see if they are able to follow 

4.

Create a mock exam and/or practice time for a group project with your friends

PHYSICAL LEARNERS

1.

Write out and re-write all of your notes in your own words

2.

Draw out diagrams and or charts/tables to help you remember the information

3.

Write out flash cards whenever possible

4.

Choose a physical book or printout version over an online version whenever possible 

5.

Try studying or reading during light exercise such as walking or pedaling on a stationary bike

6.

Use a dry erase board to constantly re-write information 

7.

Do something with your hands while you're studying if you're not writing, i.e. squeeze a stress ball

SOLITARY LEARNERS

1.

Find a designated study space where people cannot distract you

2.

Try out classical or lo-fi beat study music, the kind that does NOT have lyrics

3.

Think about earplugs and/or noise-canceling headphones 

4.

Create an agenda or to-do list for yourself before you begin studying

5.

Set a timer for when you need designated breaks
